Responsible to the Associate Director and Assistant Director of Career Counseling and Planning for providing comprehensive career services to a diverse body of students at the University Park Campus. The primary responsibility is to provide drop-in, individual, and group career counseling sessions that focus on a wide variety of career development topics including career decision making, job/internship search strategies, and applying to graduate school. The Counselor is expected to utilize a broad range of formal and informal assessment strategies, develop and provide outreach programming, and provide appropriate referral services for students requiring extended psychological services.
In addition to providing counseling and outreach, the counselor will assist in the delivery of unit-wide programs, collaborate with academic staff/faculty, serve as liaison to an academic college, and on a rotating basis teach undergraduate career development classes and co-coordinate the mock interview program. Typically requires a Master's degree in Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, Student Personnel/Student Affairs or higher, plus three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) certification or LPC eligible in the State of Pennsylvania is strongly preferred. The Counselor must be skilled at psychosocial assessment and interpersonal counseling, demonstrate multicultural competence, and be grounded in both career and personal development theory. The Counselor must possess a strong work ethic and be a dedicated team player.
