Description: The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) seeks a dynamic
individual to provide visionary leadership and outstanding service as the
Director of the LGBTQ Resource Office. The Resource Office provides services
and programs to support educational, social and developmental needs of
lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning students on the
UIS campus. The Director will be an active service provider, will supervise
staff and office operations and act as a resource, consultant, and liaison
to the campus community. Requirements include: a Master's Degree with three
to five years of full time professional experience in higher education
working with programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and
questioning students, experience in crisis response, and an in-depth
understanding of LGBTQ  issues and their intersection with other aspects of
identity including race/ethnicity, social class, gender, physical ability.

Duties:  

                . Provide visionary leadership in the management,
administration and strategic planning efforts of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual,
Transgendered, Queer and Questioning Resource Office.

                . Provide leadership in the development, implementation,
management, assessment and evaluation of innovative and dynamic programs and
services for LGBTQ students. Collaborate with and serve as a resource to
other campus groups in the assessment of campus climate with respect to the
LGBTQ community and monitor the impact of Resource Office programs and
initiatives on campus climate.

                . Serve as a resource, advocate, consultant, and liaison to
the campus community. Maintain current information and expertise regarding
trends and developments in Student Affairs and specifically regarding
services to LGBTQ students.  Develop and maintain a library of reference
materials on LGBTQ related topics.  Develop and present campus-wide
presentations on relevant topics. Provide educational resource materials to
individuals and groups. Develop, provide and deliver training opportunities
for students.  Maintain links and relationships with students and other
departments.

                . Facilitate the development of student leadership
initiatives and foster student learning and development by serving as a
mentor, student advocate and educator. 

                . Provide leadership in building and sustaining environments
that support the recruitment and retention of students in conjunction with
Enrollment Management.

                . Provide additional leadership and service within the
Division of Student Affairs and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Minimum Education and Work Experience: 

-Master's degree and three to five years of full-time experience in higher
education working directly with programs for lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, queer and questioning students;
- Demonstrated effectiveness in working with gay, lesbian, bisexual and
transgender communities;

- Experience in supervision, administration and fiscal management;
- Excellent communication, conflict resolution and mediation skills, as well
as the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others;
- Knowledge and understanding of LGBTQ issues and their intersection with
other aspects of identity including race/ethnicity, social class, gender
physical ability, etc;
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity and equity;
- Effective analytical problem-solving and decision-making skills;
- Experience in planning, promoting and delivering educational programs;
- The ability to assess campus climate and environments and respond
appropriately and effectively;
- Knowledge and understanding of the developmental needs of LGBTQ students.
