[Classclimate-users] Online Response Rates

One other thing we do is announce what department had the best response rate each semester at a leadership meeting with the Dean.  That not only gives an incentive to departments to improve their response rates (if they didn't win), but is a point of pride for the winning department.

In the Patton College, we do several things to help improve response rate:


1.       Tell the instructor to treat the online course evaluation just like a paper form.  We ask that they give the students  10 minutes in class (instructor leaves room during this time) to complete the evaluation on their laptop or smartphone.

2.       Offer instructors the option to reserve the one of our labs during class time so students have access to a computer to complete the evaluation.

3.       Reminder e-mails go to students every 2 days and won't stop until the they complete the evaluation or the time period to do so expires.

4.       We set Class Climate to send response rates to instructors.  If it's below 50%, they are encouraged to remind their students to complete the evaluation.

5.       Provide reminders on social media and our home page.
The evaluation process is totally voluntary and anonymous so we can't make students complete them, but we do stress their value and encourage them to take them seriously.  We have seen our rates increase since we implemented the  items above.
