Prince, Maakye!
I won't be able to make today's meeting. But, I am attaching a list of
fundraising suggestions for you to bring up at the meeting. I don't have any
contact information for anyone in the group besides Agrey who I have CC'd on
this email. Feel free to forward it to the fundraising committee. I never got
that email.
1) Increase Membership
Collecting dues is the easiest way to make money. To increase membership,
we should hold a membership drive.
1) Contact professors teaching African courses and request that an ASU
member be able to speak with the class about joining ASU.
2) We could also consider advertising our next meeting in the student paper
(Avg. cost $30 which would be paid off with dues)
2) Bar Cover Charge
I'm new to Athens so I don't have the bar contacts but I think this is a
good idea. I have the entertainment industry background and am familiar with
setting up these types of events. I would have no problem going down to the
bars and inquiring about possible fundraising opportunities.
3) African Music CD
This would be an opportunity to promote African culture while raising money
for the club
1) Club members could make their own contributions of themselves singing or
playing instruments or reading poetry (indigenous to Africa)
2) I have the equipment necessary for recording and we could easily make
clear recordings, burn them to blank cds, print out some cover art and sell on
campus. The only thing we would have to pay for is 1) blank cds (avg $20 for
100 blank cds, avg $10 for 40 jewel cases + paper and printing cover art cost
(which I could do on my home computer for free) = ~$50. Sell the cds for $8
each, get a $10 donation... it adds up.
I like this idea because it serves the club two fold - it furthers our mission
and makes us money. It could also easily be turned into an annual fundraiser.
Those are my three major contributions. The other suggestion I had was football
games cleanup. Again, I don't know if they do it here at OU, but at Penn State
and Clemson, school organizations were given the chance to go to the stadium
after football games and clean up. They were paid to do it. If OU does this,
it's an easy way to make money.
That's all I've got for now. Let me know how the meeting goes.
YEbEhyia!
Christine
