[ASU] Getting inexpensive things in Athens and being efficient

Greetings,

While I was at the presidential debate, I heard candidates speaking to the struggle of Africans in the community just in trying to get settled. I wanted to do my part in trying to help relieve some of the burden. While it is winter now and most of you are likely settled I still wanted to let you guys know about a couple things that might make things a bit easier if not for you, for those who will come in after you.

Ohio University's Moving and Surplus has auctions often and you can get several items in good condition for almost nothing. Items can be purchased right away without having to wait for the auction if the student organization purchases it with the patron. I for one furnished my entire apartment for under 100 dollars. I got a kitchen table, living room table, two end tables, a 33 in TV, a desk, two extra long sectional couches and a some office supply items. Yes, for under $100. I also bought brand new athletic shoes for $10 and a van for a couple hundred dollars.Everything looks like it is in good condition because most of the time the University gets new things in and then they just get rid of the things they have through surplus. Then the community benefits through auctions.  I wanted to mention this because I think that those coming in (and perhaps those here) could benefit from being able to get starting furniture for cheap.

They have computers for 50 dollars (though they are not your newest models) that anyone could buy at any time. Or, you could do like me and wait for the auction and get it for 10 bucks. Interested? I don't know when the next auction is but you can call them or you could (and should) go to the Ridges off Richland Ave and go check out some of the things in stock. As I mentioned, you do not have to wait for the auction if it goes through ASU and not an individual.

Good luck in your search!

On another note, I am not sure if members have difficulty with finding buildings or contact information etc. at OU, but in case you didn't know there are two numbers that could be resources for you:

740-593-1000 (week days 8am-5pm) --staff workers
740-593-4000 (every day while baker is open so 8am- 2am)--student workers

These numbers are essentially OU operators plus a little more. I have done silly things like left the house on the first week of school with out my schedule and so I called the second number to ask them to look up the class for me and tell me where to go. They are very helpful.

Hope this info is helpful.

Hello all,

the electoral committee has come to a decision about the format of the
elections.

Elections will take place on Saturday February 28 at 8.30pm in
Baker room 239.

Only registered members will be allowed to vote and as mentioned in the email
sent by ASU treasurer, We expect that those eligible to vote would have paid
their dues, at least for this quarter.

For clarifications please see article II of our constitution
 b. Members with up to date registration shall be entitled to benefits
of the Union as specified in the by-laws. Registration shall be determined
 by the payment of dues.

The election committee would therefore encourage members to pay their dues
on or before Saturday.

There will be a verification list provided by the treasurer which will be
used to decide who will be allowed to vote. In case you are not paid up by the
date of the elections, you can still do so right at the electoral post.

Dues for a quarter are $5 and members are expected to at least pay
Winter quarter dues in order to be allowed to vote.

Ballot papers would be provided to eligible members to cast their votes. The
counting and announcement of results would be done in the presence of all
members and candidates.

Thank you.
The Electoral committee.
