Hey everyone,
We hope Week 4 has been going well and that things aren't incredibly crazy
for you all yet.
First off we would like to thank everyone who came out to Rush last week,
we know it's a mandatory event but we all still appreciate the effort you
put into coming!
Unfortunately, we received feedback regarding some less than desirable
behavior during rush events. The feedback stated that some actives'
behavior and things they said were disrespectful and unnecessary. Things
like goofing off and distracting the conversations in the small groups,
sitting on your phone/not participating, and also making negative comments
about Rush in general.
Although goofing around and having fun is usually harmless, it came off to
be disrespectful, distracting, and unprofessional. There is a time and a
place for everything and this was not one of them.
Sitting on your phone seems like it isn't hurting anything or anyone, but
all the potential new members are looking at you as an active. If you seem
disinterested or bored, think about what that portrays to them about APhiO
as a whole.
Making negative comments about an event you are at is always unacceptable,
especially in front of potential new members. We understand that as
actives, you have been through these events multiple times and it might not
be the most thrilling thing for you anymore. But this is the first time for
the people who came to rush, don't forget that was once all of us. Remember
how you might have felt when you went to your very first rush event. In no
way is it kind or necessary to make any negative comment about any event
you are at. If you have an ideas to make the event better, the chairs who
put it on would love to here any constructive criticism you might have,
after the event is over.
Remember every individual brother represents Alpha Phi Omega as a whole and
we don't want anyone thinking it's anything less than the great LFS
organization it is.
