Subject: Re: It Can't Happen Here

Good evening —

I’m thrilled to see so much conversation about the Federal Theatre Project and It Can’t Happen Here. It’s an eerily prescient play at the moment and is well worth the attention.

For those interested in reading the Berkeley Rep adaptation, they uploaded a copy to Dropbox along with their invitation to be a part of the nation-wide reading they were working toward in October. The version is dated 9/30/16 and is definitely adapted for a reading. Here’s a link to the file: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ousft81ewhsklxs/AAA3I18yiQubd27L5r4nzD_3a?dl=0&preview=IT+CAN’T+HAPPEN+HERE+staged+reading+script+9.30.16.pdf<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.dropbox.com_sh_ousft81ewhsklxs_AAA3I18yiQubd27L5r4nzD-5F3a-3Fdl-3D0-26preview-3DIT-2BCAN-25E2-2580-2599T-2BHAPPEN-2BHERE-2Bstaged-2Breading-2Bscript-2B9.30.16.pdf&d=DQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=rQPSMXMhP_i8Z29C0_LdyhLwjjSqX9j__qRLRmUsH2I&m=SkeO3hiyGxdBANAZ8QB-TJocLQ1nmTgoVVT6nE_VmYg&s=y-NGPnFdEOdULBw8xYprTN5c9pwNfisJZvDs6DyGwes&e=>

Here’s Berkeley Rep’s invitation to participate: http://newdeallegacy.org/tag/federal-theatre-project/<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__newdeallegacy.org_tag_federal-2Dtheatre-2Dproject_&d=DQMFaQ&c=8hUWFZcy2Z-Za5rBPlktOQ&r=rQPSMXMhP_i8Z29C0_LdyhLwjjSqX9j__qRLRmUsH2I&m=SkeO3hiyGxdBANAZ8QB-TJocLQ1nmTgoVVT6nE_VmYg&s=jmSLW-9ZFIOVT480o0wFDS204gZ57FcBz0bLUd-M8UM&e=> This will link to the Dropbox file if the link above gives you trouble, and has contact information for a conversation about rights.

George Mason University Special Collections used to have a copy of the 1936 script online. It looks like they’ve changed their website since the last time I accessed it there and all the links to the download seem to be broken now. If folks want to contact me off-list, I’m happy to share the download from a year or so ago.

Best,
Beth

Hi all,
We are having great conversations here at OU. I work with theater company, Brick Monkey and we are trying to get a reading of the play in February/March. I was researching for a friend and found some copies around the state.

I've got access to the 1938 Federal Theater, DPS copy.

In Ohio we have copies to borrow for OhioLINK members or ILL

I would very much like to read this as well. I've had trouble finding any copy at all. Is there a version that is widely available?

I'd be interested in seeing that version too - we're interested in doing it at my institution next year.

We're not, but it's certainly an appropriate choice. Didn't the Federal Theatre Project do a number of productions?

Dear Colleagues:

Just out of curiosity, are any of your departments thinking about staging the Federal Theatre Project's adaptation of It Can't Happen Here next season?
