Subject: Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program

Dear colleagues:

I am pleased to announce the call for proposals for the 2017-18 Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship Program (URAP), which provides opportunities for students to expand their research and creative skills by working on a faculty member's project. The goal is the creation of a lively intellectual experience that is mutually beneficial.

Faculty members in all academic disciplines are eligible to apply for research apprenticeships (with the exception of those who have been awarded an apprentice within the past two application cycles). An interdisciplinary faculty committee will select proposals for funding for one of the following options:

· Hire a student to work for 300 hours in the summer (usually 12-15 weeks) OR

· Hire a student to work for 10 hours a week for the 30 weeks of the 2017-18 academic year

HTC will advertise selected faculty proposals campus-wide, and all full-time undergraduate students are eligible to apply. Participating faculty interview applicants and select their apprentices, who are not required to be in the same department, school, or college as the faculty member. Faculty do not receive additional compensation beyond having the student work on his or her research project. (Students earn $10 an hour for their work.)

While the work that research apprentices undertake may be independent in nature, substantive oversight must be provided by the faculty member. If your plans involve spending a significant amount of time away from campus, please do not submit a proposal for that time period.

Faculty wishing to apply should e-mail a CV and the Faculty Proposal/Working Agreement Form to Jeremy Webster, Dean of the Honors Tutorial College (webstej1 at ohio.edu<mailto:webstej1 at ohio.edu> ), no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017. The form is attached and is also available at https://www.ohio.edu/honors/current-students/apprenti ceship.cfm<https://www.ohio.edu/honors/current-students/ap

Notification of funding status will be sent by February 10, 2017 . Funded projects will then be advertised across the Athens campus, and students will have two weeks to submit a resume and cover letter directly to the faculty member. Funded faculty members will then interview applicants and select their apprentices by March 24, 2017.

Faculty applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 20, 2017 . We cannot accept late applications.

If you have questions related to this process, please contact Dean Webster (webstej1 at ohio.edu<mailto:webstej1 at ohio.edu> or 593-2723).
