Title: Full Time Lecturer (non-tenure track) in Scenic Design, SIU Carbondale.

Start Date: August 16, 2014, one semester term appointment renewable contingent on performance, curricular need, and university approval.

Qualifications: MFA in Theater and/or Scenic Design and practical experience as scenic designer, as well as skills in scene painting, current practices in scenic and stage property design and fabrication, and computer aided scenic design. Additionally applicants must have the demonstrated ability to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in scenic design, scene painting, stage properties, period styles, and other theater related design courses.

Duties: Teach courses in the undergraduate and graduate areas; serve as Scenic Designer for departmental productions; mentor and supervise graduate and undergraduate scenic designers and property masters, serve on thesis committees, maintain the department's academic and production schedules, maintain an active agenda of research and/or creative activity; perform appropriate service to department and University.

The Department: The Department of Theater, in the College of Liberal Arts, offers a B.A. Degree, a B.F.A. Degree in Musical Theatre jointly taught with the School of Music, and M.F.A. Degree in theater with specializations in the areas of Directing, Playwriting, Design, and Production. Doctoral studies in theater are sponsored through the Department of Communication Studies. The Department of Theater has an active production program in cooperation with the School of Music, and a staff of nine faculty and two professional staff. Student enrollment approximates 80. SIU Carbondale is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a Doctoral/Research University-High Research Activity. SIU Carbondale is a public institution with an enrollment of approximately 18,000 students.
