Note to Subscribers:

The National Weather Service office in Charleston WV is tasked with
the 'official' forecasts/watches/warnings for our area. In the
face of widely conflicting media 'guesses' concerning the incoming
winter storm, it may be prudent to use Charleston Weather guidance.

To that end, you may find the new Experimental Probabilistic
Snow/Ice Forecasts to be of value. http://www.weather.gov/rlx/winter

...DISCUSSION...

A FAST MOVING AND WEAKENING DISTURBANCE MOVING THROUGH THE OHIO RIVER
VALLEY WILL BRING A PERIOD OF MOSTLY LIGHT SNOW TODAY. ACCUMULATIONS
OF AN INCH OR TWO ARE EXPECTED. THIS SYSTEM WILL EXIT THIS EVENING...
LEAVING ANOTHER COLD NIGHT. LOW LEVEL CLOUDS MAY LINGER THOUGH. DRY
WEATHER SHOULD HOLD ON THURSDAY AND THURSDAY EVENING...WITH MODERATING
AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES AS HIGH PRESSURE SHIFTS EAST. THE FIRST MAJOR
STORM OF THIS WINTER STILL APPEARS LIKELY FOR FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY.
SNOW...A WINTRY MIX...AND RAIN WILL MOVE NORTH INTO SOUTHWEST
VIRGINIA...EASTERN KENTUCKY AND SOUTHERN WEST VIRGINIA BEFORE DAWN ON
FRIDAY MORNING. THE PRECIPITATION THAN LIFTS NORTHEAST INTO NORTHERN
COUNTIES. AS THE SYSTEM MO VES TOWARD THE MID ATLANTIC COAST...
COLDER AIR SHOULD PRODUCE MOSTLY SNOW FRIDAY NIGHT INTO SATURDAY.
THE POTENTIAL EXISTS FOR A CRIPPLING SNOW STORM. A WINTER STORM WATCH
WAS POSTED WHERE CONFIDENCE WAS HIGHER FOR SEVERE WINTER WEATHER.
THE TRACK OF THE SYSTEM WILL ULTIMATELY DETERMINE WHAT HAPPENS
WHERE...SO INCREASE YOUR WEATHER AWARENESS FOR THIS WINTER STORM...
AND MONITOR FOR POSSIBLE WINTER STORM WARNING. DRY WEATHER IS EXPECTED
SUNDAY AND SUNDAY NIGHT.
