Kia.... I have no idea what/how we are to "add a disclosure that alerts students..." We don't actually "offer" out of state field experiences. Students request them and we approve them (limited number of out of state rotations per student - usually 2). HELP!

Subject: [State_authorization_update] State Authorization updates

Good afternoon everyone:

There has been a change in our website location. You can now find state authorization here--- https://www.ohio.edu/instructional-innovation/

There are updated spreadsheets included on the faculty/staff page. Please continue to use this site as a resource.

Please see the following updates:

1) All programs that lead to licensure and certification, your programs should have a disclosure that alerts students to the requirements set forth by the licensing boards, in Ohio and most importantly out-of-state. These disclosures should be seen included in your webpages along with written correspondence. If you have any questions on what this disclosure should look like, please contact Kia Stone for examples. This is mandatory for all online programs and programs that offer field experiences out-of-state.

2) We have been informed of state authorization requirements from higher education offices in the Canadian provinces and territories:

The Canadian compliance requirements are also clear for some provinces and territories and not for others. Some provinces and territories have not yet provided their information although they have indicated that it will be forthcoming. When a document is fully developed with this information, it will be shared with you all via the website. Meanwhile, the Coordinator has some contact information in each province and territory and can research any questions that anyone might have.

Like everything else in state authorization, the answers are not black and white. However, we are pleased to now have some additional direction and contact information that will help with these compliance questions.

3) State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (SARA) updates:

* DC-Legislation has passed giving the Higher Education Licensure Commission authority to enter into reciprocity agreement. SREB staff anticipates the SARA application to be submitted in May for review at the June SREB Steering Committee meeting.

*        Kentucky-SARA legislation has been introduced, SB140.

* North Carolina-The University of North Carolina Board of Governors did approve the state joining SARA last week. The documents for this meeting can be found at file:///C:/Users/mlarson/Downloads/doc%20(1).pdf<file:///C:\Users\mlarson\Downloads\doc%20(1).pdf> and the minutes, when completed at http://www.northcarolina.edu/apps/bog/index.php?mode=browse_premeeting&mid=5629&code=bog
SARA staff anticipates the North Carolina SARA application will be submitted in May for review at the SREB Steering committee June meeting. The state may move the effective date to sometime later in the year. Those discussions are currently underway. North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority is expected to be the SARA portal entity.

* South Carolina-SARA Legislation has been introduced. A legislative update was posted on SC Commission on Higher Education page last week, references the legislation's passage through a House subcommittee: House Bill 4639 http://www.che.sc.gov/CHE_Docs/infocntr/legisl/2016/CHE_WeeklyUpdate_18-22Jan2016.pdf

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

Thanks!
