Good afternoon everyone,

Here are the following state authorization updates for the month of April 2016.

New Department name and New website

eLearning is now the Office of Instructional Innovation. You can find state authorization under resources on this page.
The link is https://www.ohio.edu/instructional-innovation/state-authorization/index.html

SARA
Kentucky has passed legislation to join SARA. They are not fully prepared to apply for SARA at this time, meaning they are NOT a SARA member but they are one step closer.
North Carolina is projected to submit their application to join SARA in October 2016.
Florida is said to be joining SARA in the Summer of 2017.

Military Students
15 states have a written rule on exemptions for military students. Please see the attached document for detailed information on those exemptions. SARA covers military students, so these exemptions are more significant in those states that are not SARA states like NC and NY.

Teacher Prep
More information for distance education programs for Teacher Prep: These new regulations are said to not have any effect on post-licensure programs unless the teacher uses their new program credentials to get licensed in a new state. For example, a teacher licensed in OH completing a Master's in English program and uses that Master's degree to obtain their license in KY.

Please read Russ Poulin's information and blog below for more detailed information:

Those of you with programs that prepare people to be certified as K-12 teachers have probably been watching the recently released proposed regulations on Teacher Prep programs. In today's blog post, I suggest that even those of you without Teacher Prep programs at a distance may wish to comment.

Once again, distance education is treated differently and in a way that does not meet the stated needs of the regulations. You may wish to submit a short comment asking that distance education not be singled out.

In the blog post, I give you a brief background on the regulations and give you some suggestions on what you might say.

I hope that you will join me in responding.

Thank you,
Russ
