[State_authorization_update] Important updates

Good afternoon everyone,

Below you will find some very good information in regards to state authorization. For information on field experiences, please take a look at the spreadsheet every week. I try to revise and post an updated document every Friday. There will be more updates to come, so please look out for those emails and website posts.

SARA updates-
Ohio has been approved by the Midwestern Higher Education Compact (MHEC) to join the Midwestern State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement
(M-SARA). This state joins 19 others (Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Virginia, Washington and West Virginia) as members of SARA. SARA is a nationwide initiative of states that will make distance education courses more accessible to students across state lines and make it easier for states to regulate and institutions to participate in interstate distance education.


Maryland updates -
Activities constituting 'Operate in Maryland' (meaning what will cause a Physical Presence in that state and require authorization)

(a) Establish or provide a location in the State for students to receive synchronous or asynchronous instruction for credit leading to a degree or certificate;

(b) Require students to physically meet in a location in the State for instructional purposes more than twice during a full-term (quarter or semester) course for a total of more than 6 hours; or

(c) Have more than five students, in a single program, physically present at one or more sites in the State in a supervised internship, practicum, or field experience as a required part of a degree or certificate program.
