Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Alcohol and Other Drug Prevention is responsible for the planning, leading, and implementation of campus alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention programs and educational services. Education will be targeted to all faculty, staff, and students with specific programs designed for entering students, upper class students, and specific student cohorts. The Assistant Director is responsible for utilizing best practices in prevention education to promote harm reduction strategies surrounding alcohol. The position reports to Assistant Dean of Students and Director of Community Wellness Services.



·         Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive alcohol and other drug prevention,             education programs as an integral part of the Division of Student Development and in collaboration with constituencies on and off campus;

·         Plan and deliver educational seminars, workshops, and health promotion activities for campus student organizations, residence hall, and academic classes as requested, including the implementation and management of AlcoholEdu;

·         Provide in-service programs for staff, student staff, and faculty;

·         Create, in collaboration with Academic Affairs, a University wide Alcohol Coalition;

·         Select, train, supervise, and evaluate assigned student staff;

·         Conduct assessment activities to acquire relevant data about alcohol consumption, attitudes and perceptions about alcohol use, and the influence of environmental factors that contribute to risky drinking practices;

·         In cooperation with other departments, plan, develop, and supervise the operation of late night programs designed to reduce hazardous drinking in college students;

·         Interact with other universities, community organizations, and agencies involved with substance use issues;

·         Attend conferences, workshops, etc. to maintain or enhance professional knowledge and skills;

·         Communicate and disseminate program philosophies, goals, and objectives to community agencies to integrate and share resources;

·         Provide a leadership role in the development of curriculum infusion plans that lead faculty to integrate discussions about alcohol abuse and its associated issues into the syllabuses of courses;

·         Utilize social norms data to challenge the beliefs and expectations of campus/community constituents surrounding drug and alcohol use and abuse;

·         Coordinate activities to secure external AOD grant funding for projects and extended services;

·         Serve on University and the Division of Student Development committees that are responsible for shaping student policies and programs, particularly those regarding AOD and related issues;

·         Perform other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.



Required

·         Master’s Degree

·         3 years experience designing, implementing, or assessing AOD prevention or wellness health promotion programs

·         Demonstrated experience in successful presentations and outreach to large and small audiences

·         Demonstrated experience in collaboration with different groups

·         Proven written communication skills

Preferred

·         Master Degree in Alcohol and other Drug Education/Counseling/College Student Personnel/Health Promotion/Public Health

·         3 or more years experience designing, implementing, and assessing wellness programs

·         Demonstrated experience in collaboration with diverse internal and external stakeholders

·         Demonstrated successful experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.

·         Knowledge of and sensitivity to a Catholic Marianist work environment.

·         Demonstrated experience with a traditional college age population for 1 or more years

·         Demonstrated experience in administrative supervision of undergraduate/graduate students for at least 3 years or more

·         Research and utilize best practices in a comprehensive wellness training program for peer educators

·         Demonstrated experience and willingness to work as a team member

·         Demonstrated effective oral communication skills (one-on-one and group)

·         Demonstrated leadership experience and visionary skills

·         Ability to work some evenings and weekends
