Job Description:

Budget Title: Student Activities Assistant Director (SL-3)

Salary: $45,000+ depending upon qualifications and experience

The Office of New Student Programs at Binghamton University (SUNY) seeks candidates for a full-time calendar year position of Assistant Director of New Student Programs. The Assistant Director will play a leading role in the evaluation of the current orientation program as well as the development of a vision for future Orientation and New Student Programs.

Duties:

Oversee and implement New Student Orientation programs for the University, working closely with the  Academic Advising offices; Writing Center; Career Development Center; Discovery; TRIO/Student Support Services; Student Athlete Success Center; International Student Scholar Services; Residential Life; Services for Students with Disabilities; and other offices across campus.

Directly supervise the Coordinator for New Student Programs to ensure appropriate new student services, budgeting, and billing needs are met through the office.

Supervise summer professional staff including NODA interns, Resident Director for Orientation and the Summer Program Coordinator.

Assist with the management of the Discovery Center and New Student Programs space including supervision and administrative policies in the Chenango Champlain Collegiate Center.

Assist the Division of Student Affairs with evaluating and restructuring the Orientation program for new, transfer, and international students, to include serving on several committees as necessary.

Develop marketing endeavors and publication materials for the Office of New Student Programs to highlight important events and initiatives.

Assist with the collection of content and publication of the Parent Newsletter in collaboration with the Dean of Students Office.

Work on committees across campus for new student initiatives including Red Zone, Alcohol & Other Drugs, Orientation Committee, Discovery Advisory Committee, and other committees as necessary.

Develop assessment tools in conjunction with the office of Student Affairs Assessment & Strategic Initiatives to evaluate parent, student, and faculty/staff orientation programs.

The position reports to the Executive Director of Student Services.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree in Social Science, Psychology, Social Work, Student Affairs Administration or related field preferred.

Experience working in a higher education orientation program required.

Candidates must be energetic, creative, well-organized, task-oriented and articulate.

Must have excellent oral communication, writing and computer skills, including the ability to communicate effectively through oral, electronic and print media, and the ability to develop communications with students and families through the use of social media.

Must show evidence of conflict resolution skills and experience responding to the requests from parents of college students.

Must be able to work well with individuals of diverse languages, cultures and ethnic groups.

Experience with updating and maintaining communications via websites strongly preferred.

Experience working at a residential college preferred.
