Job Summary


Columbus State University has an opening for a Director of Residence Life in the Residence Life Department. The Director of Residence Life reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. This position provides leadership to all Residence Life operations, which include Main Campus, RiverPark and Maryland Circle; oversees the selection, hiring, training of six professional staff, 32 Residence Assistants and five Graduate Assistants; and provides vision, leadership, and daily administration for a dynamic residence life system comprised of 1,200 undergraduate and graduate students living in on-campus apartments. This is a full-time, live off- campus position that oversees the educational, social, physical, and safe well- being of professional staff, paraprofessional staff and residential students. The Director is responsible for overseeing the administration of judicial decisions and sanctions as determined by the professional staff of Residence Directors. This position supervises and evaluates performance of all Residence Life professional staff; handles, oversees, or refers to the Dean of Student Office all Residence Life disciplinary cases; coordinates the Residence Life facilities maintenance and renovations; coordinates Residence Life marketing with Enrollment Management; oversees all administrative processing of housing, including but not limited to: contracts, room assignments, room changes, cancellations, withdrawals, fee assessments, and housing exemptions; oversees staff training and selection process; coordinates all technological projects for the department; works in conjunction with the Assistant Dean of Students in an annual review and edit of the Residence Life handbook; supervises a rotating schedule with Residence Life Staff established per semester; prepares reports related to Residence Life; advises, counsels, and interacts with individuals and student groups regarding institutional policies, services, and programs available; assists other departments in cases that are related to Residence Life; serve on university committees as assigned; and other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Students.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in higher education, student personnel, student affairs or related field. Advanced degree in one of the areas listed or related field preferred, demonstrated leadership experience required, as well as five years of experience in higher education with the following areas: student development and support services, Residence Life and Housing facilities or Business/ Public management or a closely related field. The successful candidate should have knowledge and experience in Residence Life/Housing facility management, employment and student trends, labor market information, and community/professional resources available to assist in a comprehensive Residence Life program; familiarity and experience with the university setting; a proven ability to provide instruction and guidance regarding Residence Life programming and facility development and maintenance; a demonstrated ability to develop, promote, and maintain programs that are student-centered and relevant; excellent interpersonal, verbal, written and organizational skills; capability to multi-task; demonstrated ability to manage budgets, develop and implement assessment and strategic planning methods and reporting functions; working knowledge/skills to include MS Office products, internet, and PowerPoint; demonstrate a proven ability to develop productive relationships with diverse community representatives, area employers, non-profit organizations and professional organizations; and understand and demonstrate an ability to facilitate the complex dynamics of residence facilities and ground maintenance. A successful criminal background check will be required as a condition of employment.

Salary Range

The salary range is $60,000 - $62,000 annually based upon education and experience.
