Superintendent, and Director of School Improvement. Dr. Thessin is the Chairperson of the Leadership for School Improvement Special Interest Group (LSI SIG) of the American Educational Research Association (AERA). AERA has been in existence since 1916.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="Default">In the most recent edition of LSI SIG newsletter, Dr. Thessin is quoted as stating “In the class I am teaching this semester at The George Washington University, titled ‘Advanced Instructional Leadership for School Improvement,’ my students
have asked, on numerous occasions, “Why, when we know what leads to instructional improvement, don’t we do it?” We all conclude that the “how” and the “what” of what instructional improvement looks like in practice, on a day-to-day basis, are the most challenging
aspects of improvement for leaders to grasp.”<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="Default">Instructional improvement, as mentioned by Dr. Thessin appears to be a “first cousin” to the Ohio Improvement Process, which is clearly a “first cousin” to the cycle of inquiry process. As you address the cycle of inquiry assignment, please
remember that identifying the process is the key factor and as Dr. Thessin mentioned the identification of the “how and what” are “the most challenging aspects of improvement for leaders to grasp.”<o:p></o:p></p>
