Please see the message from Trina below about the sewing club she is starting.
I hope this finds you enjoying the fall semester and all your classes are going well! I am reaching out to you to inform you that we will be starting a sewing club here in the RFPD dept. to teach people interested in the basics of sewing. You would learn how to read patterns and terms, different seams, how to make basic projects (and more advanced as time goes on) and also how to make your own basic patterns that could be modified. Along with this you will get the ever so valuable knowledge of how a sewing machine works and is threaded and basic terminology.
There is no set time and date for the club yet. But it would be full swing in the spring and if you are a part of the club then we would keep you posted. You would have to buy all your own supplies for the club, including fabric.
We only have about 20 sewing machines if there is a huge interest then we will have to figure something out to benefit the most individuals and we may not have space for everyone. We cannot accommodate everyone's schedule so I apologize in advance if it does not fit for you.
Just to give an idea of the supplies needed so you can look them up and get an idea of price is as follows: Dressmaker scissors (fabric shears), dressmaker pins - with ball heads, tape measure, metal sliding seam gauge, #2 pencil, sewing machine needles - Schmetz 80/12 universal, polyester sewing thread (white and gray/black), fabric marking tool, seam ripper, pin cushion (optional), cheap pair of scissors.
We are just getting a preliminary idea of who would want to be involved and how much of a desire there is to develop a sewing group that would be started in the spring. Fill out the form that provided in the link below: https://ohio.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_elfx14dIZejoxOB
