Students in RFPD,

I am writing to inform you of an exciting opportunity that our RFPD program is embarking on with West Virginia University for summer 2014. Interested students can apply to travel to Italy and participate in a 4 week, 6 credit study abroad course. The "Disegno Italia" summer program will provide students with the opportunity to study Italian art, design and culture. This four-week program begins at il Sillabo in San Giovanni Valdarno, located twenty minutes outside of Florence in the Tuscan countryside. At il Sillabo students will take conversational Italian language, Italian art, design, culture, and history. As part of the cultural immersion experience students will participate in field trips to several Tuscan cities as well as to Rome. In addition, students will take a cooking class in order to participate in a cultural immersion experience. The group then will travel to Milan and spend two weeks at Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti (NABA). Their time at NABA builds upon the Italian art and design lectures covered at il Sillabo and introduces the design culture of contemporary Italy in the design center of Milan. The courses feature lectures by professional Italian designers from each field, field trips to professional venues, and a project.

This is a great opportunity for any RFPD students that are interested in enhancing their curriculum with a culturally enriching (and fun!) experience. The link to the website is included below and I have also attached a brochure. The final costs have now been posted on the website and the online application process went live yesterday. Preference will be given to students who submit applications by Feb. 15 but the final deadline is Mar. 30. If you have any questions regarding this opportunity, please feel free to email me.
