If you're in or around Chicago, I highly recommend them. I went to a 1-day workshop on Geometer's Sketchpad done by PJ Karafiol (also below) that was truly truly incredible. It's like taking a master class from a virtuoso. This time the creator of Sketchpad, Nick Jackiw is also doing a session. If you are able and can afford it, I highly recommend these. Generally speaking, the MMC (Metropolitan Mathematics Club) of Chicago is one of the more engaging and excited collection of math teachers I've ever worked with. See attached flyers for more details.<br><br>Here they are:<br><br>The first are three-day workshops to get at the basics of teaching the heart of the high school (and middle school) curriculum. This will be great for newer teachers. Each workshop will be run by three master teachers from the Chicagoland area. This is a very special chance. However, the price is not high at all. It is unbelievably inexpensive. Knowing that school funds for professional development are (or have) dried up, MMC is offering 3-day workshops for just $100. That is reasonable enough for many to pay their own way. All three workshops will be held at Glenbrook South High School from Aug 2 to 4. Varied approaches to common topics, helpful activities, pedagogical guidance, technology of many types, active lessons, and a bundle of wisdom will be shared. This is for advanced users. It will be offered at York High School from June 21 to June 24. It is a once-in-a-career opportunity. Because of the advanced nature of this workshop, participants will need to send in a "demonstration" sketch. See the flyer for details. This workshop will be 3.5 days long. The cost is just $250.
