Subject: [Ohk12admins] Reading Master's Program- fall deadline approaching

Greetings,

My name is Chris Kennedy. I am the Program Coordinator for Reading Education in the Department of Teacher Education in The Patton College of Education at Ohio University. I wanted to send a message along with some information about our fully online reading master’s program. Please share this information with your staff.

The Reading Master’s (MEd) program at Ohio University is a 34-credit hour online program that can be completed in three semesters. The faculty within this advanced master’s program work to help licensed teachers further their knowledge and understanding of language and reading development, teach reading across grades K-12, administer reading assessments and make data-driven decisions, work with other teachers and specialists to design appropriate reading instruction to meet the needs of all students, and develop and conduct original research to further their own learning. Upon graduation, students are also eligible to apply to have the reading endorsement added to their Ohio teaching license.

There is still time to enroll and get registered to begin in fall semester. The deadline to register is July 15th and online classes begin August 24th. Attached is a program overview that provides more details on coursework, field experiences, and tuition, as well as application information. Details are also available on the program website at https://www.ohio.edu/education/teacher-ed/reading.

The thought of jumping back into study for a master’s degree can be intimidating so we also offer a reading education endorsement that can serve as a perfect launching point before entering the master’s program. No matter which option you choose, becoming better equipped to help students overcome barriers to reading well is a win for everyone involved.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me: kennedyc at ohio.edu<mailto:kennedyc at ohio.edu>.

Take care,

Chris Kennedy
