Hi Folks:

This week's Environmental and Plant Biology seminar (Friday, January 24th) will be delivered by Dr. Jeremy Beaulieu, an Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas. Jeremy is a plant evolutionary biologist who is interested in understanding the mechanisms
that drive speciation at the macroevolutionary scale. He has made important contributions, in particular, to model-based approaches that infer the relationships between morphological traits and species diversification. Many of you might be familiar with
his work through his OUwie and HiSSE packages in R.

Jeremey's seminar will be held from 11:50–12:45 in 104 Porter Hall, titled: Embracing the hidden strengths of large phylogenetic trees and comparative methods. All are invited to attend.

Following his seminar, I have asked Jeremy to host a workshop on implementing the hidden state (HiSSE) Markov model approach he developed in R. I encourage you and your students to attend. The workshop will be held in 429 Porter Hall, from 1:00–2:00 PM. Please
bring a laptop with R and the HiSSE package installed to the workshop (I am happy to help you set this up if you are unfamiliar with what to do).
