Interested in being part of an innovative effort to show how youth are<br>
learning in connected learning environments?<br>
<br>
The Connected Learning Research Network (supported by the John D. and<br>
Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation) invites you to submit proposals to<br>
participate in a first-of-its-kind two-year research study of "connected<br>
learning."<br>
Your group will become part of a national network of people who are<br>
studying<br>
the construction and design of connected learning environments (CLEs)<br>
and how youth learn in them. If selected, youth aged 13-16 would take part<br>
in a longitudinal survey of their experiences, and you will receive results<br>
from the study for your group or community.<br>
<br>
APPLICATIONS<br>
<br>
We encourage applications from groups that meet face-to-face, meet online,<br>
or combine both online and physical spaces in their organizational<br>
structure.<br>
We especially seek groups that engage in work related to the underlying<br>
educational value of equity, focusing efforts on providing equitable<br>
learning<br>
opportunities for underserved communities, and bringing together diverse<br>
populations of youth. We also welcome applications from<br>
groups that could support participation of a small cadre of youth<br>
researchers who could contribute directly to the research.<br>
<br>
ELIGIBILITY & REQUIREMENTS<br>
<br>
We welcome applications from any group that aligns well with the<br>
principles of connected learning and:<br>
<br>
- Can recruit at least 15 participants aged 13-16 for the first wave of the<br>
study;<br>
- Is established and stable, i.e. is likely to have staff who can support<br>
the<br>
group's participation in the study for the next two years;<br>
- Uses digital media;<br>
- Is able to help researchers by obtaining informed consent from youths'<br>
parents.<br>

Note: If your group has support for research or evaluation from the<br>
MacArthur Foundation already to study your connected learning environment,<br>
please email <a href="mailto:awortman@hri.uci.edu" target="_blank">awortman@hri.uci.edu</a> to determine eligibility.<br>

SUBMISSION & SELECTION<br>
<br>
To be considered, applications must be completed and submitted by<br>
8:00 PM (Pacific Time) on Friday, September 28th, 2012.<br>
Notification of selection or rejection will be sent via email no later than<br>
Wednesday, October 17th, 2012.<br>
