Subject: Plagiarism Guidelines for the Patton College from Dr. Howley,
Senior Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies

I am attaching a document that identifies the steps to take in meeting the
requirements of the *CEHS Plagiarism Policy* that was passed last year. The
policy (and related guidelines) include a process that will affect the
timelines for completion of theses and dissertations. *Because our Research
Grant Coordinator, Rick Huard will now be running all theses and
dissertations through Turnit-in.com before candidates can begin to work with
the University’s Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Office, all candidates
will need to plan for an **additional 2 weeks or so for the plagiarism check
*. The check should be completed only when substantive writing on a thesis
or dissertation has been completed, although you might still allow a student
to work on final details like a table of contents or reference list while
Rick is doing the plagiarism check. Please read the guidelines carefully. We
will be implementing the policy for fall submissions of theses and
dissertations.
