Assistant Vice President, Center for Distributed Learning
University of Central Florida
Position Announcement

The University of Central Florida, Orlando, Florida, is seeking an
Assistant Vice President for its Center for Distributed Learning. The
Center is within the office of Information Technologies and Resources in
the division of Academic Affairs; the Assistant VP reports to the Vice
Provost for Information Technologies and Resources (CIO). The Center
plays a central role in coordinating and facilitating the university*s
distributed learning initiatives, in cooperation with the colleges,
departments, and student support services. Salary is negotiable and
based on credentials and experience.

Characteristic Tasks and Responsibilities:
* leadership in providing vision, strategy, policy formulation, as
well as the planning and development of academic programs delivered
through technology;
* management of Center staff and budget;
* direction of program logistics, scheduling, and facilitation;
* short- and long-term planning for distributed learning initiatives
in consultation with college deans, department chairs, and other
appropriate administrators;
* leadership in the collection, analysis, and reporting of data
related to distributed learning courses, programs, and faculty;
* exploration and establishment of distributed learning partnerships
with education, business, military, and other agencies and institutions
to increase opportunities for university outreach;
* leadership for obtaining and maintaining accreditation by the
Southern Association of Colleges and Schools for distance learning
activities and programs;
* development of institutional marketing plans and support for
distributed learning degree programs, courses, and certificate
programs;
* leadership and coordination in provision of learner support
activities and services for students participating in distributed
learning courses and programs;
* service on university committees relating to distributed learning
and representation in various professional organizations;
* service as institutional contact for distributed learning with
outside agencies such as the Florida Board of Governors, the Florida
Distance Learning Consortium, and the Southern Regional Education
Board.

Required Qualifications:
* earned doctorate or terminal degree in an appropriate discipline
from an accredited college or university;

Preferred Qualifications:
* a minimum of three years of increasingly responsible administrative
experience in distributed or distance learning in a higher education
environment;
* senior-level experience in planning, program development, and
policy formation in regard to academic program delivery through
technology.
* college- or university-level teaching experience, either
face-to-face, or online;
* a record of research and scholarly publication involving online
learning or instructional technologies.

Preference will be given to candidates that possess the following:
* a thorough knowledge of the emerging field of online learning,
including fully online and blended learning formats;
* strong interpersonal skills and an the ability to work effectively
with internal and external entities;
* strong written and oral communication skills;
* organizational management skills, including personnel
administration and budgeting;
* an ability to work as part of a closely-knit team as a
self-motivated team member and leader;
* an ability to gather, assess, and report on relevant data to both
internal and external entities;
* familiarity with academic and administrative processes and
procedures common to large and complex institutions of higher
education;
* a strong commitment to service and quality.
