Members of Honors Community Council:

Good morning! I hope Week 15 is going well for all of you. I have a request for you.

I received this email from Student Senate a few days ago and have decided to forward it to all of you. I think this could be one of the most important things Senate does this year to help our fellow students. If you have time to take the survey (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J58BK6H), I'd ask you to do it. If you have a chance to speak to a Senate member or intern (remember, Brett Weiler is our HTC Senator), please encourage them to continue working on this project that could affect many Ohio University students.

An article ran on The New Political's website today, mentioning a student who was directly affected by CatCab's policy to only pick up students who live within a mile of Baker University Center. I believe extending the CatCab service and providing better bus routes is a very worthy goal. I've included a quote from the article below. I hope you will take the time to take the survey.

It has been a privilege working for all of you this semester. Thank you for your feedback, hard work and friendly faces. Bekki Wyss will be taking over next semester, as I will be in Mérida, Mexico, studying abroad. I know the HCC Executive Board is going to continue working hard to create a better HTC experience and represent our college in the larger university community.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Brian Vadakin

"Though it was the last meeting until spring semester starts in January, senate had a lot on the agenda. Firstly, senior Torin Jacobs spoke out on the need to raise more funds and extend CatCab services.

Jacobs, who was severely injured earlier this semester, said CatCab dropped him from its roster just four days after he filled out the necessary paperwork, citing that he lived too far outside of the CatCab’s services. CatCab only picks up those in needs of its services within a one mile radius of Baker Center.

Jacobs said he was unsure on how he was going to get to class every day, an emotional hardship he described as a 'low point' in his life.

'I don’t want anyone to have to go through what I went through,' Jacobs said, explaining that in his conversations with other disabled students, his view that CatCab needed to be expanded was a shared one."

Fellow OU Leader,

Student Senate is in the process of installing a new program, DoubleMap, onto campus by next year. It is our hope that this program will increase student use of both city and school bus systems. In order to determine if this an initiative worth pursuing, we need to gauge student interest in this application. I was wondering if it would be at all possible for you to forward this message to your organization members and ask for them to fill out a short survey.

Want an easier way to get around campus? Student Senate is working to install an interactive phone app that will allow any student to track school and city bus routes and their current locations on any smartphone or computer. We are hoping that this application will increase student use of these systems by making it easier to do so. In order to determine if this is an initiative worth pursuing we need your help to display student desire for the program.

Please take a few minutes to check out the DoubleMap program http://iub.doublemap.com/map/ and fill out this quick 5 question survey: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/J58BK6H.

Please email me with any questions or concerns. Thank you so much for your time.
