Hi Fellows and List Serve Members: Tricia Porter of Korn Ferry sends this announcement about Dean search at Touro University NYC:

"We are writing to request your recommendations in connection with our recruitment of the next Dean, Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine in New York City. TouroCOM is an osteopathic medical school with locations in the heart of urban Harlem (Manhattan, New York) and rural Middletown (Hudson Valley, New York). Touro College and Universities has initiated the recruitment of an accomplished academic doctor of osteopathic medicine and has asked that we communicate this search widely. Accordingly, we are soliciting nominations from leaders in academic osteopathic medicine throughout the nation. We request your assistance by your nomination of highly qualified individuals who are prepared to take advantage of this extraordinary opportunity to lead a mission-driven college of osteopathic medicine developed around a socially aware curriculum that embraces the technological and medical standards of the new millennium.

The next Dean will focus on positioning and supporting the College's continued growth and prosperity. He/She will champion TouroCOM's commitment to training osteopathic physicians, with a particular emphasis on practicing medicine in underserved communities, and to increasing the number of underrepresented minorities in medicine. The University System is committed to working to correct diversity disparities in our health care delivery system so physicians can best meet patient needs. TouroCOM opened in 2007 in the heart of Harlem, New York, directly across the street from the Apollo Theater, as the first medical school to open in New York State in nearly 30 years and the first osteopathic medical school with a special emphasis on training minority doctors. The TouroCOM received full accreditation status from the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) on May 19, 2011.

As the senior academic and administrative executive of TouroCOM|Harlem campus, the Dean will provide leadership for a wide range of functions for this remarkable medical school. In addition to providing academic leadership, he/she is responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of the College, supporting a complex academic, clinical and research enterprise. TouroCOM has grown stronger and its significance has become more widely appreciated. The historic accomplishments of the College stem from the remarkable vision and sponsorship of Touro College and Universities currently educating approximately 6,000 students annually in the health professions including pharmacy (Pharm.D.) and public health (M.P.H.) as well as medicine making it one of the largest producers of health care professionals in the nation. Touro University California's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, CA (founded in 1997) and Touro University Nevada's College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, CA (founded 2004), which have also been accredited by the AOA's COCA, extend the scale and scope of the University System's commitment to osteopathic medical education. New York Medical College "(with an allopathic medical school, dental school, graduate school in the basic biomedical sciences, and school of health professions)" in Valhalla, NY joined the Touro College and University System in 2011.

This is an exciting role for a seasoned academic physician executive who is skilled at managing in an academic environment and who appreciates the importance of collegial decision making and political leadership. The ideal candidate will be a D.O. with a distinguished professional background that evidences the candidate's potential for leadership in achieving and maintaining excellence and innovation in teaching, research, scholarship and service, and a commitment to serving the underserved and to ensuring access to the profession for talented underrepresented minority students.

Korn Ferry is assisting Touro College with this important search. We would sincerely appreciate your forwarding nominations of highly qualified leaders in academic osteopathic medicine to me directly by email or phone. Self-nominations are welcomed.

Thank you for your consideration and for your confidential suggestion of potential candidates."

Tricia
