Dear Fellows: With deep sadness I share the news of the death of JJ Rodos, D.O., DSc, who passed away on Thursday, January 21, 2016. Jerry shared over fifty years of experience as a health policy advocate with twenty classes of Health Policy Fellows. We will miss his stories, his irreverent respect for the legislative process, and his invaluable role in introducing over 200 Fellows to the world of policy and politics.
A graduate of what is now A.T. Still University-Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Kirksville, MO, Jerry was board certified in Psychiatry, Forensic Psychiatry, Family Medicine and Correctional Health Care. He operated Transitions Counseling and Consultation in Matteson, Illinois. Dr. Rodos served as Dean of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, in Biddeford, Maine and at what is now the Midwestern University-Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Ill. He also served as interim Executive Director and Associate Executive Director of the American Osteopathic Association and Associate Editor of the American Journal of Clinical Medicine.

Jerry served as Consultant to the Director of the National Health Service Corps, U.S. Public Health Service, under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Primary Health Care, Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). A health policy advocate long before health care policy was making national headlines, Dr. Rodos' efforts to increase access to care in underserved communities resulted in the reauthorization of the National Health Service Corps, originally established in 1972.
HPF graduates describe Dr. Rodos as "irreplaceable"... ''an excellent role model with a great wealth of knowledge"...." a skilled teacher with a broad base of experience ... who provides wonderful insight into the legislative process and who knows health policy intimately."
We send condolences to Jerry's family and bid farewell to a fine mentor and dear friend.
