Hi Fellows: The American Osteopathic Association Department of Government Relations and the Bureau of Federal Health Programs held its second annual Health Policy Forum on September 21 in Washington DC.

The Forum included presentations on health insurance exchanges, drug shortages, an election 2012 preview, the Patient Centered Outcomes Research Institute, and the potential to lower health care costs by giving neediest patients better care. Dr. Ross-Lee welcomed the Training in Policy Studies Class of 2013 (the tenth TIPS class) and the Health Policy Fellowship Class of 2013 - the nineteenth HPF class. You can meet the HPF class at http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/hpf/current.htm.

The graduating Class of 2012 received their Health Policy Fellowship Certificates. Congratulations to the twelve member of the Class of 2012: http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/hpf/Graduates2012.htm
Marty Scott, D.O., Ward Stevens, M.S., and Leonid Skorin, Jr., D.O., O.D., presented their health policy research briefs at the Forum. The abstracts of the graduating class briefs are available at http://www.oucom.ohiou.edu/hpf/PolicyBriefAbstracts.htm

It was great to see so many other Fellows at the Forum: Rob Hunter, D.O. (HPF 2010); Layne Subera, D.O. (HPF 2010); Lynn Mark, D.O. (HPF 2008); Barbara Greenwald (HPF 2009); Sherman Dunn, D.O. (HPF 2008); Joe Giaimo, D.O. (HPF 2007); Wolfgang Gilliar, D.O. (HPF 2007); Ira Monka, D.O. (HPF 2004); Ronnie Martin, D.O. (HPF 1995); Larry Wickless, D.O. (HPF 1995); Bob Maurer, D.O. (HPF 1999) and Anthony Rotella, D.O., TIPS 2011.

George Thomas, D.O., Chair of the BFHP, recently sent an e-mail letter to attendees to let them know that the Forum presentations are available on the to the AOA's Health Policy Forum webpage. You can access the presentations here<http://www.osteopathic.org/inside-aoa/events/Pages/health-policy-forum.aspx>.

The HPF and TIPS faculty, staff, and Fellows thank the AOA DGR and the Bureau of Federal Health Programs for hosting an informative Health Policy Forum and extend our appreciation for this opportunity to stay involved in health policy education. The event is a great venue for graduation and the introduction of the incoming classes - and a prime opportunity for Fellows to come together and to continue to learn about key health policy issues.

Hope to see lots of you at OMED - and at the AOA Policy Forum in September 2013. NC
