Hello Fellows and List Serve Members:  A talent all leaders share is the ability to see leadership potential in others.  As a leader in the osteopathic profession, please consider nominating an applicant to the eighteenth class of the Health Policy Fellowship. I have included some general information below and encourage you to pass it along to a potential applicant.

The program is offered by the New York Institute of Technology/New York College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine in collaboration with colleges in the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), and the government relations offices of the AOA and AACOM.

During the year-long series of ten seminars beginning in August, Fellows study the economics of health policy; federal and state health programs; vulnerable populations and culturally competent care; health professions workforce; health information technology; health issues advocacy and the legislative process; rural health; and the impact of health reform on access to affordable, quality care.  Many Fellows go on to accept positions of leadership in medical education and in the profession:  many have become chairs of university departments.  Thirteen COM deans (and two COM presidents) are graduates of the program, as are the current president, immediate past president, and past president of the AOA.  Over twenty grads have served as president of their state associations.

While the program does not charge tuition, costs of travel and lodging run about $1000 per seminar (approximately $10,000).
