<image004.jpg>On July 31, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) announced
provisional appointments to its Committee on Governance and Financing of
Graduate Medical Education. The committee was formed to conduct an
independent review of the governance and financing of the nation's GME
system and issue recommendations for consideration by Congress.
According to the IOM, the Committee will convene for 21 months to "(1)
assess current regulation, financing, content, governance, and
organization of U.S. GME and (2) recommend how to modify GME to produce
a physician workforce for a 21st century U.S. health care system that
provides high quality preventive, acute, and chronic care, and meets the
needs of an aging and more diverse population."
The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM) is
pleased to announce that Barbara Ross-Lee, DO, New York Institute of
Technology's Vice President for Health Sciences and Medical Affairs, and
Acting Dean of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, is listed
among the provisional members. Her appointment, and that of other
members, will not be finalized until after a 20-day public comment
period on the membership of the Committee.
