Hi Fellows and List Serve Members: I am getting in touch to share information about Fellows activities:

Robert L. Hunter, DO, HPF Class of 2009-2010 will be representing the Ohio Osteopathic Association on the State Action on Avoidable Rehospitalizations Advisory Committee. The StARR committee is part of the Ohio Health Care Coverage and Quality Council, a 34-member, public-private partnership established by state law in July 2009 and located at the Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI). Dr. Hunter is a family physician and emergency physician, and second vice president of the Ohio Osteopathic Association.

Paul D. Seltzer, D.O., HPF Class of 2009-2010 has been appointed to the Physician Workforce Advisory Council for the state of Florida by Ana M. Viamonte Ros, M.D., M.P.H., Florida Surgeon General. The primary responsibility of Council is to advise the state Surgeon General on matters concerning current and projected physician workforce needs in Florida. These duties will include reviewing physician workforce survey materials; reviewing graduate medical education data; assisting in preparation of the Physician Workforce Annual Report; assisting in the preparation of a Physician Workforce Strategic Plan; and monitoring and providing recommendations regarding the need for an increased number of primary care or other physician specialties. Dr. Seltzer is an orthopedic surgeon practicing in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Ira P. Monka, DO, MHA, HPF Class of 2003-2004 was appointed as a Trustee to the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - the first DO in over twenty years to serve on the board. In addition, Dr. Monka was elected to a three- year term as President of the New Jersey Osteopathic Educational Foundation. Dr. Monka was also recently appointed to be the AOA national convention Vice-Chair in 2011 and Chairman in 2012. Dr. Monka is a family medicine physician practicing in Cedar Knolls, New Jersey.

Al Joucys, D.O., HPF Class of 1998-1999 was designated a Health Care Hero by Crains Detroit Business. According to Crains, under Dr. Juocys direction as Chief Medical Officer of Medical Network One, a physicians services group, MNO introduced the Community Care Travel Team (CCTT). The CCTT, a complement to the Patient Centered Medical Home, is a multi-disciplinary health care team (registered nurse, certified diabetes educator, registered dietitian, lifestyle coach, behavioral health specialist and exercise specialist) that brings its combined expertise to individuals at PCPs offices, the worksite, and educational/community centers to evaluate, provide counseling, and help reduce the risk of complications from chronic conditions. Because of Michigans high obesity and type II diabetes rates, nearly 70% of the CCTTs current efforts focus on patients with diabetes. Dr. Joucys is a family medicine physician practicing in Rochester, Michigan.

Thanks for sending me updates of your activities and appointments. NC
