<div class="">Project Description:<br class="">

Participants will assist with documenting changes of land use in and around Denali National Park and Preserve in one or more of the following ways:<br class="">

• Collecting, organizing, and scanning existing hard copy items (e.g., aerial photos, satellite imagery, historic maps, blueprints, or as-builts) to digital formats (e.g., JPEG, TIFF, PDF);<br class="">

• Creating primary GIS products (e.g., georeferencing orthomosaic raster datasets, digitizing vector flight lines or road footprints) and secondary GIS products (e.g., 3D models from stereo-pair compilations, kernel density maps) to assess the change over time;<br class="">

• Providing metadata and writing standard operating guidelines for data creation and access.<br class="">

Additionally, participants will also be given the option to participate in field work in one or more of the following ways: Locating historic boundary cairns during backcountry trips using mapping grade or survey grade GPS units;<br class="">

Establishing ground control points along the park road using survey-grade GPS units for photogrammetric flights;<br class="">

Assist with terrestrial lidar/total station scan of historic buildings in the frontcountry to compare elevation changes due to permafrost thaw.<br class="">

<div class="">Qualifications:<br class="">

Applicants must have at least three years towards a bachelors degree in cartography or a geospatial degree (including geomatics, GIS, geography, etc.). Applicants must have taken coursework in georeferencing, editing, database design and management, and programming languages.

 Additional coursework in Microsoft Access, Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD, or Agisoft Photoscan software will make the applicant more competitive but are not required.<br class="">

The applicant should be able to work well independently both in the office and in the field with little supervision, have advanced map reading and GPS orientation skills, and must be able to interpret airphotos/satellite imagery.<br class="">

<div class="">Opportunities for outdoor work may be available, but are not required, and if outdoor work is desired, applicants must be comfortable hiking off trail in a rugged mountain environment. Applicant must have a valid driver’s license. Prior to starting

 this position a government security background clearance will be required.<br class="">
