If you have any students who are thinking about graduate school in Geography/Geographic Information Science for the next academic year, please encourage them to consider our program. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt;text-indent:.5in'>Our M.S. degree, which has both thesis and non-thesis tracks, provides students with practical and theoretical knowledge in geospatial techniques, with coursework required in the areas of cartography, remote sensing, and GIS. The Department is well equipped with computer hardware and software for GIS, image processing, and cartography, as well as a myriad of more standard software programs. <o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt;text-indent:.5in'>Funding opportunities for graduate study in our department are usually in the form of teaching assistantships, but we may also have research assistantships on a more limited basis. Students with strong GIS skills may also obtain internships with local companies or government agencies. We usually evaluate applicants for GA awards in the beginning of March each year for the academic year starting in the fall.<o:p></o:p></p><p class=MsoNormal style='margin-bottom:12.0pt;text-indent:.5in'>Faculty research interests include the theory and application of geographic information systems, land change science, impacts of shale gas production,<span style='color:red'> </span>and urban food systems.
