The City of Athens, Ohio is now seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Environmental Coordinator at the Department of Engineering and Public Works. The Environmental Coordinator serves as the City’s coordinator for City programs related to the protection of the environment, specifically surface waters. This position assists with the implementation and management of the City’s National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits and will serve as the Coordinator and Inspector for the City’s: Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) program, Non-industrial wastewater treatment plant bio solids program, Industrial Pretreatment and Fats, Oil, and Grease (FOG) program, and train to be certified and perform testing in the City’s certified water and wastewater laboratory. This position is in the classified service of the City, requires a six month probationary period, and is covered by the Fair Labor Standards Act. The Environmental Coordinator is in Pay Grade 8 with a starting hourly rate of $24.24.

A Civil Service Exam will be administered for this position. Date, time and location of the exam will be communicated at a later date. Applicants must show a valid, government issued Picture ID for entry to the test. Applicants must achieve a minimum passing score of 70% on the exam. To be eligible for military credit, a copy of the DD-214 showing honorable discharge must be submitted with the application packet. Military credit is only applied to a passing score.
