Hi all,

I wanted to call your attention to an NSF REU site on Spatial Models and Electoral Districting that will be held the next few years in Tacoma, Washington.
We're looking at that intersection between the construction and experience of space and democracy through the lens of how we construct electoral districts in the US. The project is explicitly about geography, but we're drawing on math, computer science, and data science as well. I've attached a single sheet pdf call, but you can also find more details here<https://faculty.washington.edu/jethatch/reu/> and the application itself here.<https://goo.gl/forms/TB4FKshOOcGguyCI3>
We provide a stipend ($575 a week), a food budget ($13 a day), and housing for the full 8 weeks of the program. If an interested student has concerns with travel, please have them get in touch with us directly.

If you are an undergraduate, please feel encouraged to apply. If you know of any undergraduates, please feel encouraged to pass this information on to them. We are particularly interested in students from schools and backgrounds that are not traditionally well represented in REUs.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly.
Best,
Jim
