The Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow are delighted to announce the launch of joint four-year PhD studentships, for entry in academic year 2019/20. We have 12 studentships available covering a stipend, tuition fees at Home/EU rates and travel funds.
Cities are home to more than half the world's population and the challenges facing cities of the future are complex and significant. With a strong interdisciplinary focus, a cohort of PhD students will collaborate across the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh to stimulate positive debate, inform policy and propose technological solutions for Future Cities. The projects will examine, evaluate and explore the complex and dynamic behaviour of the urban system using innovative and diverse methodological approaches.

Students will be co-supervised by both institutions and will receive their degree from the institution where their lead supervisor is based.
Each student will spend up to 12 months carrying out a minimum of 2 taster projects (usually one at each university) before selecting their main PhD project. Students will participate in a symposium during their first year.
Applications are invited from outstanding students from any country.
Application deadline: 12 noon, Monday 13 January 2020. Interviews (if required) will take place in February 2020.
