All, from Dr. Josephe Ortiz, for distribution to those who may be interested.

*********

I have an opportunity to hire a NASA-funded, MS-level graduate research assistant (GRA) at Kent State University to begin this coming fall (August 2018). Due to the federal funding source - and the nature of the hyperspectral work - all applicants must be US Citizens or nationals. I
am looking for a student with a background in Geology, Geography, Ecology and/or Remote Sensing.

The successful applicant will work with Dr. Joseph D. Ortiz (Department of Geology, Kent State University) as part of an ongoing, NASA-funded collaboration with the NASA Glenn Research Center and seven other institutions – including Ohio View schools - studying the perennial cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms that occur on Lake Erie and several of the inland waters in Ohio each summer.

The Water Quality Lab at Kent State University is working on state-of-the-art algorithms and unsupervised classification methods to differentiate algae, cyanobacteria and suspended sediment based on their spectral signatures using multispectral and hyperspectral data sets from a variety of aerial and satellite sensors. The preferred candidate will have expertise in visible remote sensing and IDL programing, but on the job training is possible for well qualified candidates.
