This is a message from professor: Joseph Ortiz who is looking for a Master’s student.


I have an immediate opportunity to hire a NASA-funded, two-year MS-level graduate research assistant (GRA) at Kent State University to begin this fall (August 2017). Due to the federal funding source all applications must be US Citizens or nationals.

The successful applicant will work with Dr. Joseph D. Ortiz (Department of Geology, Kent State University) as part of an ongoing, NASA-funded collaboration with the NASA Glenn Research Center and seven other institutions studying the perennial cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms that occur on Lake Erie and several of the inland waters in Ohio each summer.

The Water Quality Lab at Kent State University is working on state-of-the-art algorithms to differentiate algae, cyanobacteria and suspended sediment based on their spectral signatures using multispectral and hyperspectral data sets from a variety of aerial and satellite sensors. The preferred candidate will have expertise in visible remote sensing and IDL programing, but on the job training is possible for well qualified candidates.
