Subject: Voinovich hiring additional students to conduct GIS work through the school year

Geography folks,
I am sending this email to see if you can help us recruit students to do work with us at the Voinovich School. We already have a record number of undergraduate and graduate students employed this Fall (9 or 10), but we still could use additional students that want real world GIS experience. The pay will be $11/hour.

Please talk with your students, and distribute the following job posting to members of the Geography Club or relevant student email lists.

Student GIS Technician
The Student GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Technician will be responsible for digitizing, editing, and reviewing GIS data by interpreting various sources. They will be working under one or more research projects under supervision of GIS staff. They will need a keen attention to detail and an ability to produce high quality datasets for internal or external partners. The position requires strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities:

- Digitizing data from paper map
- Editing existing data
- Attribute data entry
- Checking the quality of others' work
- Reading public documents and interpreting records
- Perform any other duties as may be required or assigned

Education and Training:

-At least one course in GIS
-Math level of at least geometry

Skills:
-Attention to detail
- Familiarity using ArcGIS products, particularly for data creation and management.
-Knowledge of basic GIS fundamentals
-Comfortable using MS Office products
-Possess strong interpersonal communication
-Possess strong oral and written communications skills
Experience with AutoCAD is a bonus
