[Geog_Jobs] Learn web-mapping easily now!

Dear all,

If you are interested in learning how to make web-maps for portfolios, it is pretty easy now with ArcGIs Online. I am sharing this with you because making web-maps is almost a necessity now for most organizations and we have not been able to teach you this in the past due to lack of resources. However, now, it's not at all difficult now with good resources from ESRI online.

You can go to the ESRI website and start watching a set of videos...
The first one is @ http://video.arcgis.com/watch/1694/create-a-new-map-in-an-organization
If you scroll down, you will see thumbnails for a series of videos. You can watch two more videos how to configure pop up videos and also how to publish it as an online web-application.

I  am also sending you an attached zip file which is a lab that my GEOG 2680 students completed. This will teach you in less than an hour how to make a basic web-map and publish it as a web-application with pop up photos and videos. No programming skills are needed for any of this.  Anybody can do this very easily without even knowing anything about GIS.

For fresh grads and those looking for jobs, I strongly recommend that you invest just a few hours to pick up these basic web-mapping skills. And then maybe make a simple map of your own (maybe just make a mental map of your hometown or to describe a field trip or a story you read etc.) and include the public URL in your cover letter or part of your portfolio to impress potential employers.
