[Geog_Jobs] Great resources for learning GIS online

Hi all,

It will appear I have become an ESRI salesman after reading this email but they have come up with some really educational resources and I have to give them their due. They are head and shoulders above other GIS companies in this regard and we should benefit when we can.

So I wanted to share with you this incredible set of exercises from ESRI that will get anybody a great introduction to the practical use of ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS online. Go here to check all of it out: http://learn.arcgis.com/en/gallery/


*        The "Get Stared with ArcMap" is a perfect first class tutorial and I throwing away my old tutorials in favor of this one.

*        We now also have "ArcGIS Pro" that is a new software and there is a good tutorial for that too.

*        Then there is a tutorial about how to make a GeoPortfolio and also how to make story maps online.

*        There are plenty of other applied geography GIS projects also available that anybody can do to get familiar with GIS.


Also, ESRI has just released a good new free interactive online book (also available as a PDF) on GIS: The ArcGIS Book. URL: http://learn.arcgis.com/en/arcgis-book/#chapters
The book has a good set of modern readings about maps, data, 3D visualization, mobile GIS, real time dashboards. Again, a great modern GIS resource.
