The E.W. Scripps Company is hiring a Digital Meteorologist to join our growing digital team in Cincinnati, OH.
The Digital Meteorologist is responsible for preparing and delivering accurate severe weather reports in the mobile weather space, producing related severe weather digital content, and managing content for and engaging with social audiences.
Requirements:
* Analyze and interpret weather and forecast models
* Prepare and deliver on camera daily regional severe weather forecast content in text, video, and images utilizing all available weather data and tools
* Prepare and deliver on camera weather updates on severe weather activity
* Report, write, capture visual content, edit, produce and post stories for mobile and social platforms
* Update content for and interact with fans and followers across social networks
* Hold live interactive chats with audiences about weather-related topics
* Attend community events with ties to weather as assigned
* Travel to meteorology-related conferences
* Interface and work with the national content desk to take advantage of weather opportunities across the country
* Build relationships and collaborate with local weather teams to identify ways to further digital and mobile weather initiatives
* Gather and verify factual information regarding stories through interview, observations, and research
* Perform other duties as assigned
Education & Experience
* Bachelors degree in journalism or meteorology or related field or equivalent years of experience
* Knowledge and demonstration of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws
* Minimum 2 years experience in meteorology forecasting
* Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong computer and smartphone skills
* Be well-versed in trends with weather-related apps and mobile apps overall
* Knowledge of HTML, video editing, audio editing, image editing, social networking
* Basic understanding and demonstration of multimedia file formats

* Have a passion for weather and technology
* Have an entrepreneurial mindset approach to build and evolve products
* Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Strong planning and organizational skills
* Ability to work independent, with local teams and teams across the company
* Ability to work flexible hours, sometimes driven by weather events
* Able to demonstrate previous on-camera work with demo reel or previously-published online videos
