FYI,

Subject: Upcoming NSF GRFP workshops

Hi everyone,

If you're receiving this message, it's because I think you may know of students who would be interested in the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP)<https://nam03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.nsfgrfp.org%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7Cb95ba07490684f64155f08d8437f2c87%7Cf3308007477c4a70888934611817c55a%7C0%7C0%7C637333560769267140&sdata=i0sOU47gE1llCLn77IYTml2AjMyr2w%2F0o3O6UYMKwjM%3D&reserved=0>, which supports graduating seniors, alumni, first-year graduate students, or students at the very beginning of their second-year of graduate study who will be enrolling in or are already enrolled in a research-based master's or Ph.D. program in the United States. NSF GRFP supports students in STEM fields, social sciences, the history and philosophy of science, and STEM education.

We will host two online informational workshops about the program soon: one on Thursday, August 20 from 5-6 p.m. EST<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_YzZlNmJjY2UtODY5YS00ZDUwLWE3ZDItOTM2NTg4ZjZlM2Ey%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22f3308007-477c-4a70-8889-34611817c55a%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22e2da78a3-13fa-4058-ad62-58ce0514d74c%22%7d> and one on Monday, September 7 from 5-6 p.m. EST<https://teams.microsoft.com/l/meetup-join/19%3ameeting_MTA2YjNkOGEtMmIzNS00YTlhLWE5ZjItNzczZjg0NzI5MTM3%40thread.v2/0?context=%7b%22Tid%22%3a%22f3308007-477c-4a70-8889-34611817c55a%22%2c%22Oid%22%3a%22e2da78a3-13fa-4058-ad62-58ce0514d74c%22%7d>. The hyperlinks shared here will take those interested in attending directly to our Microsoft Teams meeting. Please share this email with students, faculty, and staff you think may be interested. Deadlines for NSF GRFP applications will be in late October.

Here is a detailed list of eligibility requirements<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2020/nsf20587/nsf20587.htm#elig> for the program:

-Be a U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident.
-Intend to enroll or be enrolled full-time in a research-based master's or doctoral degree program in an eligible field of study in STEM or STEM education. (See Appendix and Section IV.3<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2020/nsf20587/nsf20587.htm#elig> of the NSF GRFP's Solicitation<https://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2020/nsf20587/nsf20587.htm> for more on eligible fields of study.)
-Have never previously accepted a Graduate Research Fellowship.
-If previously offered a Graduate Research Fellowship, have declined by the acceptance date.
-Have never previously applied to GRFP while enrolled in a graduate degree program.
-Have never earned a doctoral or terminal degree in any field.
-Have never earned a master's or professional degree (see joint bachelor's-master's degree information below) in any field, or completed more than one academic year in a graduate degree-granting program, unless (i) returning to graduate study after an interruption of two or more consecutive years immediately preceding the application deadline, and; (ii) are not enrolled in a graduate degree program at the application deadline.
-Not be a current NSF employee.
-Graduate students enrolled in a degree-granting graduate program are limited to only one application to the GRFP, submitted in the first year or beginning of the second year of their degree program.
There is a limited opportunity for returning graduate students to apply for a graduate research fellowship. Individuals who have (i) completed more than one academic year in a degree-granting program, (ii) earned a previous master's degree of any kind (including bachelor's-master's degree), or (iii) earned a professional degree are eligible only if: they have had a continuous interruption in graduate study of at least two consecutive years immediately prior to the application deadline; and are not enrolled in a degree-granting graduate program at the application deadline.

Thanks very much for your support of our students,
Chris
