Job Description:

The position requires a proficiency in Fortran coding, the use of Message Passage Interface (MPI) libraries and MPI input/output, and experience in profiling and improving code efficiency on high performance computing platforms. Duties include addressing problems associated with developing and implementing robust boundary conditions and three-dimensional meshes containing mixed elements necessary for propulsion simulations, as well as incorporating turbulence models to enable Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) simulations, large-eddy simulations (LES) and hybrid RANS/LES simulations. Efforts will also be aimed at investigating implicit, hybrid implicit/explicit, and space-time methods of time discretization and implementing the most appropriate technique to reduce simulation time while maintaining accuracy.
**Chemical and Thermal Propulsion Systems: Position involves the research and development of chemical propulsion systems for NASA flight applications. Near-term duties focus on tasks supporting development of propulsion systems for the European Service Module and other flight systems. Most of these tasks entail collaboration with other NASA centers, contractors and international partners, and require knowledge of propulsion and propellant systems and components, thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, and integrated propulsion system design and operation.
