The Bobcat Brain: the Future of AI and Autonomy in the Heartland
Ohio stands at a crossroads in the global race for artificial intelligence and autonomous systems. From neuromorphic computing to large language models and analogical reasoning, new technologies are reshaping national defense, business operations, and everyday life. In this talk, we explore how Ohio-through its universities, research partnerships, and local initiatives-can lead in developing intelligent, autonomous systems. Drawing on real-world applications and future-facing research, we highlight how AI and autonomy are converging, and why the heartland must be at the center of this transformation.

Bio:

Dr. Trevor Bihl is a senior research engineer and program manager at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Sensors Directorate, Dayton, Ohio. In this role, he leads a diverse portfolio of both extramural and intramural R&D efforts in algorithms, autonomous systems, edge intelligent devices, and artificial intelligence.  He also holds faculty appointments at Marshall University, Shawnee State University, and Wright State University.  He has a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and BS/MS in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University, Athens, Ohio.   He is a senior member of IEEE and a senior member and former board member of INFORMS, the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences.
