Project of the Week (POTW): Rural Action Zero Waste Clean Up 11/8/14
We will be cleaning up the trash at an illegal dumpsite. We will meet at 10am on the first floor of Baker Center on Saturday, November 8th and will be back on campus by 2pm. Note: Wear old clothes that you do not care about and keep the weather in mind while dressing. Gloves and transportation will be provided. Only 12 people will be able to attend so sign-up will be on a first come, first serve basis. Sign up here!

Athens Build

Habitat for Humanity will be working on the subfloor sheathing and framing the walls at the build on Curtis St. in Athens. The days will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 5th and Thursday, Nov. 6 from 9am-4pm. Commodity Food Box Packing Event: 12/6/14
We are asking for volunteers to join us for this fun and meaningful activity. Our goal is to pack 2000 commodity supplemental food boxes during that time. These commodity boxes go out each month to 4000 seniors who live in your neighborhood. The event will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in Logan, Ohio.
Volunteers are essential to the SE Ohio Foodbank, a program of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, which provides food and other essential items to member agencies in 10 counties including Athens, Gallia, Hocking, Jackson, Lawrence, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton, and Washington. Ohio University Habitat for Humanity Wall Build: 11/8
Due to weather last weeks wall-build was cancelled. It has been rescheduled for 11/8. If you’re a student at Ohio University or Hocking College, plan to come out to our “Wall Build” on Saturday November 8th. We plan to frame walls for most of the home. HAVAR, Inc. is seeking volunteers who are interested in working with adults with disabilities as a program activity leader for their day program. Developmental Disability training will be provided. Putt People First is offering 2-4 hour volunteer shifts with or without Havar consumers. Hours available are Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 4pm to 8pm. And Saturday and Sunday noon to 8pm. The golf course provides part time remunerative employment for people who have developmental disabilities, and who need partners at the job site to assist with tasks that include the following skills; equipment rental, customer relations, light janitorial and grounds keeping, minor maintenance of course decorations / obstacles, records keeping.

GIRLpalooza
On November 8th, from 10am-4pm, Trimble Elementary/Middle School is hosting a day full of six workshops, lunch, and a dance party. It is for the Girl Power group that is essentially a weekly group for 4th-8th grade girls to help increase self-esteem, build positive relationships, and talk about various issues that girls may have to face. Volunteers would be asked to lead a group of 10ish girls for the day.
