Dear DTWG,

After a short hiatus in activity, I'm writing to report that two adult, uninjured, gravid female diamondback terrapins were encountered on the Jekyll Island Causeway today. Both were recaptures from previous seasons. This was the first activity on the causeway since the previous DOR adult female on April 5.

Happy turtle season,

Subject: Diamondback terrapin nesting activity - Georgia

Hello DTWG,

Yesterday, April 5, at ~4:30 p.m. an adult female diamondback terrapin was found DOR on the Jekyll Island Causeway due to automobile strikes. This animal was not a recapture. No eggshells recovered from the site, however, egg follicles found on the road. In situations like these, we generally assume the animal crossed the road, nested successfully, and then was hit when attempting to cross again.

If this was a nesting foray, it would be the earliest we've documented since monitoring began (dating back to 2007).
