Hi Eric,
Also see the Northeast Conservation Strategy for Diamondback Terrapins (2016) (link below) page 4 for the Northeast states (Massachusetts to Virginia). I do know commercial harvest for NJ closed that same year https://www.nj.gov/dep/docs/ao2016-02.pdf as the table indicated it is a commercial marine species.

In Texas they are also given an S1S2 designation which puts them at imperiled/critically imperiled status.

Hi Eric –

DBT are considered a species of greatest conservation need here in Texas. The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has a webpage dedicated to the species: https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/terrapin/#:~:text=Texas%20diamondbacks%20are%20one%20of,to%20that%20of%20the%20ocean<https://nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https:%2F%2Ftpwd.texas.gov%2Fhuntwild%2Fwild%2Fspecies%2Fterrapin%2F%23:~:text%3DTexas%2520diamondbacks%2520are%2520one%2520of%2Cto%2520that%2520of%2520the%2520ocean&data=04%7C01%7Cdtwg%40listserv.ohio.edu%7C882082a6576c442d5eea08d8e0196a5d%7Cf3308007477c4a70888934611817c55a%7C0%7C1%7C637505747051169663%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C1000&sdata=rQ25IPF%2FsQtmSKqJrwHXS7PP853sfzs38I7tNKv37ro%3D&reserved=0>. Eric: I don't believe the diamondback terrapin in New York is classified as endangered, threatened, or special concern, although, based on its limited geographic distribution in the state, a classification of at least special concern is warranted.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I am in the middle of publishing a manuscript of a population study I conducted on Diamondback Terrapins in Florida. One of the Reviewer's comments on my paper was to write out all of the states the list terrapins as either endangered, threatened, or species of special concern. I was using the Watters 2004 paper, but it is slightly outdated. I was hoping that the working group members might be able to tell me what the listing status for terrapins is in your state, since I have seen some inconsistencies while searching certain government websites. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
