You are invited to attend a free screening of National Geographic’s Gender Revolution: A Journey with Katie Couric followed by a Google Hangout panel with experts featured in the film on Monday, April 17th, at 6pm. In this documentary, journalist Katie Couric travels the country to explore the rapidly evolving complexities of gender identity. The screening will be followed by a Google Hangout panel with special guests from the film, Sarah McBride and Georgiann Davis.

Sarah McBride is the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign (HRC). In 2012 made national headlines when she came out as transgender while servicing as American University’s student body president/ Prior to coming to HRC, Sarah worked on LGBTQ equality at the Center for American Progress and was the first trans woman to serve as a White House intern. In 2016, Sarah became the first openly transgender person to address a major party political convention when she spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

Georgiann Davis is an assistant professor of Sociology at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Georgiann is also board president of interACT: Advocates for Intersex Youth, and former president of the AIS-DSD Support Group. She has written many articles on intersex in outlets ranging from Ms. Magazine to the American Journal of Bioethics. In her 2015 book, Contesting Intersex: The Dubious Diagnosis, she explores how intersex is defined, experienced, and contested in contemporary U.S. society.
